Dental Bridges in Cherry Hills Village, CO

A gap in your smile from missing teeth can affect far more than your appearance, impacting your ability to chew properly, speak clearly, and feel confident in social situations. Whether you’ve lost teeth due to decay, gum disease, or injury, these spaces can lead to neighboring teeth shifting, bite problems, and even changes to your facial structure over time.

At Sopris Smiles in Cherry Hills Village, Dr. Golnaz Samimifar provides custom dental bridges to restore both the function and beauty of your smile. With over 100 hours of continuing education and advanced technology including digital scans and CEREC same-day crowns, we create bridges designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth while providing lasting durability.

What Are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are fixed prosthetic devices used to replace one or more missing teeth by literally “bridging” the gap. A traditional bridge consists of two crowns placed on the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth (called abutment teeth) and a false tooth or teeth (called pontics) in between. This creates a permanent restoration you cannot remove, unlike partial dentures.

Our advanced technology allows us to create bridges with precise fit and natural appearance. Modern bridges are crafted from durable materials like porcelain or ceramic, which can be color-matched to your existing teeth for a seamless appearance. With proper care, a well-made bridge can last 10-15 years or longer.

Traditional vs. Implant-Supported Bridges

Traditional bridges rely on the teeth on either side of the gap for support, requiring these healthy teeth to be shaped to accommodate crowns. Implant-supported bridges, on the other hand, use dental implants as anchors rather than natural teeth. While we work with skilled oral surgeons for implant placement, our role focuses on the precise planning and restoration phases to ensure optimal results.

Cantilever and Maryland Bridges

In certain situations, we may recommend alternative bridge types. Cantilever bridges attach to only one adjacent tooth, making them suitable when there’s only one tooth next to the gap. Maryland bridges use a metal or porcelain framework bonded to the back of adjacent teeth, requiring minimal alteration to healthy teeth.

Benefits of Choosing Dental Bridges

Dental bridges offer numerous advantages for patients with missing teeth. They restore your ability to chew and speak properly, preventing the dietary limitations and speech difficulties often experienced with missing teeth. Bridges also maintain your facial shape by providing support to your lips and cheeks, preventing the sunken appearance associated with tooth loss.

Beyond functional benefits, bridges prevent the remaining teeth from shifting out of position. When a tooth is lost, neighboring teeth naturally drift toward the empty space, creating alignment problems throughout your mouth. A bridge maintains proper spacing and bite alignment, protecting your overall oral health.

Our comprehensive approach ensures your bridge integrates seamlessly with your existing teeth and bite pattern. We take your entire oral health into consideration, creating restorations designed to last while preserving the health of your remaining natural teeth.

The Bridge Treatment Process

Creating your custom bridge begins with a thorough examination and treatment planning. We evaluate the health of your abutment teeth, take digital impressions, and use our CEREC technology to design your restoration with exceptional precision. This advanced system allows us to visualize your final result and make any necessary adjustments before fabrication begins.

The process typically requires two appointments. During the first visit, we prepare the abutment teeth by removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the crowns. We then take detailed impressions and place a temporary bridge to protect the prepared teeth while your permanent restoration is crafted.

At your second appointment, we remove the temporary bridge and carefully fit your permanent restoration. We check the fit, bite, and appearance, making any final adjustments needed for optimal comfort and function. The bridge is then permanently cemented in place, immediately restoring your complete smile.

Maintaining Your Bridge

Proper care extends the life of your bridge significantly. While you cannot floss between the connected teeth in a traditional manner, special floss threaders or water flossers help clean underneath the bridge. Regular professional cleanings and examinations allow us to monitor your bridge and overall oral health.

The following care practices help ensure your bridge’s longevity:

  • Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, paying special attention to the gum line
  • Use floss threaders or interdental brushes to clean under the bridge
  • Avoid chewing hard items like ice or using your teeth as tools
  • Schedule regular checkups and cleanings every six months
  • Maintain excellent oral hygiene to protect the supporting teeth

Following these guidelines helps prevent decay and gum disease around your bridge, ensuring years of reliable function and appearance.
